Take A Load Off
Scientists at Wake Forest University found that for every 1 pound of weight you lose, you alleviate the pressure on your knees by 4 pounds. As well as reducing joint pain, losing weight mat increase range of motion and decrease demand on nearby muscles to provide stabilization. If knee pain is keeping you from exercising in the first place, try rowing, water aerobics or walking on an inclined treadmill that allows you to raise your heart rate without the joint-pounding jog.

Don’t Bend Over Backwards
Or forward for that matter. A recent report in Strength and Conditioning Journal noted that your low back is most susceptible to injury when it is fully flexed or fully extended. The advice given by Robert Manske, C.S.C.S., coauthor of the report was “keep a natural arch in your spine”. You should always strive to keep your low back in the form it has when you are standing in good posture, especially when you are exerting yourself.

Chiropractic, Not Just For The Spine
A study involving 385 Chiropractors and 5,607 patients found adjusting the spine provided relief for many problems not commonly associated with spinal manipulation. The study included Chiropractors and patients from Canada, United States, Mexico, Hong-Kong, Japan, Australia and South America. When all the results were tallied it showed that breathing, circulation and digestion were the non-spinal complaints that were most likely to be alleviated with Chiropractic adjustments.

Healthy?
A study conducted by Michigan State University and published in Archives of Internal Medicine, April 2005 looked at "Healthy Americans." The Criteria for "healthy" was someone who does not smoke, eats right (five or more fruits or vegetables per day), maintains normal body weight and exercises (30 minutes most days). In the end, only 3 percent of Americans qualifies as "healthy". In 2000, data from the National Center for Health Statistics showed 63% of Americans to be overweight and 31% to be obese. The October 2002 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association also showed the percentage of obese Americans to be 31%.
